Last month, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the organization’s highest rating. Now, that’s an impressive feat in its own right, but it also marked an incredible milestone for the Mazda brand: Every 2017 model year Mazda vehicle tested by IIHS has been rated a Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with optional front crash-prevention and specific headlights. Even more impressive? Mazda is the only automaker to earn this incredible distinction.
Masashi Otsuka, VP of research and development, MNAO, was quick to highlight the importance of safety to the Mazda brand. “Our Mazda Proactive Safety Philosophy guides us to develop cars and crossover SUVs that are nimble and direct-feeling to help a driver avoid incidents altogether. Our vehicles are designed and engineered to help protect the driver and passengers if a collision happens,” said Otsuka. “To Mazda, safety is about empowering the driver as much as helping to protect him or her. We’re proud of the accomplishments of the [Mazda] CX-5 development team and appreciative of the IIHS’s recognition.”
i-ACTIVSENSE® is at the heart of the Mazda brand’s safety philosophy. A collection of available safety systems, i-ACTIVSENSE driver-aid technologies take an active approach to safety. Milliwave radars and cameras keep an eye on your surroundings while you focus on the road ahead. Mazda Radar Cruise Control with close proximity warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition use that data to help keep you and your passengers out of harm’s way.
Speaking of passengers, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 was named the Best Midsize Crossover for families by parenting experts from Parents magazine and automotive experts from Edmunds.com.
