There’s nothing like a good celebration, especially one that’s chock-full of gorgeous Mazda Miata models. And that’s exactly what Mazda has in store later this year. The Millionth Miata Celebration Tour will kick off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California this October, with 18 stops in all.

Robert Davis, senior VP, U.S. Operations, Mazda North America, talks about the inspiration behind the tour: “Last year was the ‘Year of the Miata’ with the launch of the all-new 2016 MX-5, but even a year into the sales of the fourth-generation roadster, that momentum has continued. From winning the 2016 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year, to the introduction of the all-new 2017 MX-5RF, to our one-millionth Miata milestone, the MX-5 continues to symbolize the innovation and spirit that propels Mazda. With the Millionth Miata Celebration, we’re excited to give back to those who, like us, continue to believe that driving matters.”

You read that right: Last year, on April 22nd, the one millionth Mazda Miata model rolled off of the assembly line. That’s an incredible milestone in a journey that began in April of 1989, when production on the Mazda Miata first began. Last year’s historic Mazda Miata was a new 2016 Mazda Miata MX-5. The millionth Mazda Miata will be making all 18 stops along the Millionth Miata Celebration Tour, with the first 240 owners and fans at each stop getting the chance to sign the car.

The revamped convertible roadster made quite a splash when it debuted last year, and has continued to garner praise ever since. In March, the World Car Awards program named the 2016 Mazda MX-5 the 2016 World Car of the Year, as well as the 2016 World Car Design of the Year. CarandDriver.com named it a 2016 10Best Car. And in an article titled “The 2016 Mazda Miata Will Save The Sports Car,” Jalopnik.com said that “This actually might just be the best performance car you can buy. Period.”
