2010 Mazda MAZDA5

4-door Grand Touring Van
The 2010 Mazda MAZDA5 is an interesting offering. Built from the same chassis that spawned the smash-hit MAZDA3, the MAZDA5 looks like a cross between a compact hatchback and a midsize minivan. Offering sliding side doors and three-row seating, the MAZDA5 can certainly swallow its share of people and cargo, and its willing suspension is truly delightful. If the MAZDA5 has a weak point it's that the standard 2.3-liter engine lacks enough muscle to give this family-friendly vehicle the "Zoom-Zoom" attitude found in the CX-7 and CX-9 crossover utility vehicles. Still, for those who travel mostly in urban settings and don't require the ability to tow a trailer, the MAZDA5 makes an excellent alternative to a cramped compact wagon or heavy SUV.
Favorite Features
Three-Row Seating
In days of yore, American cars seated six passengers on two three-person benches. The MAZDA5 gives each of the six individuals his or her own seat with theater-style elevation for each row.
Foldout Second-Row Console
A console emerges from under the second-row passenger seat and contains cupholders for both middle-row passengers and an ingenious net catch-all for odds and ends.
Interior
The 2010 Mazda MAZDA5 features six individual seats placed in three rows of two. Each of the four rear seats folds out of the way individually, so the MAZDA5 can accommodate anywhere from one to six occupants and a number of combinations of occupants and gear. The driver's-side seat in the second row offers an under-cushion storage bin, while that on the passenger's side has a clever fold-out cupholder with a storage compartment made of netting. The driver has a commanding outlook over a logically designed instrument panel. The shift lever protrudes from the center stack and above it are easy-to-use controls for the sound system and heating and ventilating functions. Finally, the MAZDA5 offers a remarkable 142 cubic feet of interior space in an easy-to-handle package.
Exterior
Mazda made a very definite effort to clone the Mazda family look in its MAZDA5. Looking straight at its new nose, you see a strong grille and obvious Mazda touches like the flying M badge. At the rear the Mazda heritage is less obvious, though the taillights have an upscale clear-lens look and the tailgate exhibits Mazda's engineering skills by using lightweight materials. The tailgate also stops its upward travel in two positions, one higher than the other, a boon for shorter people. On each side are a conventional swing-out front door and an extremely wide rear sliding door that operates with just one finger, but is not power actuated.

Separate Fuel Facts From Fiction

According to a new Angus Reid survey, over one-third of us asked don't realize the benefits to their vehicle engine just by selecting a high-quality gasoline, and nearly one-third don't bother to seek out the correct grade of gasoline as recommended by their vehicle's manufacturer.
Here are a few useful fuel facts that can help keep your vehicle in good running condition and even help prevent costly repairs down the road:
1. Regular maintenance will help keep your vehicle running longer and can help save money at the pump:
Fact
Changing the engine air filter, oil changes and transmission checkups can help your vehicle run more efficiently and avoid major expenses in the future. Following a vehicle manufacturer's motor oil recommendation can improve gasoline mileage by one to two per cents*. Keeping your engine properly tuned can improve gas mileage by an average of four per cents*.
2.) All gasolines are the same:
Myth
Gasoline choice plays a vital role in the cleanliness and performance of an engine. Audi, BMW, Honda and Volkswagen believe that high-quality gasolines that are Top Tier-certified will help keep engines cleaner than gasolines containing only the lowest additive concentration (LAC) set by government standards. For example, Shell nitrogen enriched gasolines are Top Tier-certified and can help protect your engine against gunk and even help clean the gunk left behind from lower-quality gasolines, which can build up.
3.) Octane levels in fuel don't really make a difference:
Myth
If you use a lower octane fuel in an engine designed to use higher octane, engine knocking may occur, causing the car to shudder and lose performance.
4.) A higher octane level indicates the very best fuel for my vehicle:
Myth
It's important to remember that "premium grade" only references octane level, and doesn't always equal “premium quality”. Using a high-quality premium gasoline, like Shell V-Power gasoline, can provide benefits that go beyond octane. Shell V-Power gasoline contains a nitrogen enriched cleaning system with five times the amount of cleaning agents required by Canadian government standards, helping your vehicle achieve optimum performance.

A 350 MPH School Bus?

by Bryan Usrey
With school about to get under way, what better way to show up on the first day than on a bus with fire coming out of the back? This may not be the safest way to travel, but it does make the school bus journey be fun again while eliminating the torturous normal journey that it usually is.
Paul Stender and IndyBoys Inc created this fire-shooting school bus and it packs a whopping 42,000 horsepower from its GE J-79 jet engine that is used on F4 Phantoms. Sadly, the bus did lose some of its hauling capacity, as only three people can sit inside. Not to mention it shoots 75-foot flames out of the back.
According to the IndyBoys website, the bus was able to hit 350 miles per hour, but we can’t imagine anybody would be willing to actually hit that sort of speed.
The Telegraph quoted Stender as he explained the reason for the bus. "I built the bus for two reasons. The first is to entertain people because, come on; it’s a jet bus. The second is to keep kids off drugs. Jets are hot, drugs are not."
Well done sir.

Driving Tips To Keep Your Family Safe

Buckle Up
The most important tip to keep your family safe while driving is to always use safety belts and proper child restraints. Children are safer when placed in the rear seat in the appropriate infant, child, booster seat, or safety belt – appropriate for the size and age. Never place a rear facing infant restraint in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with an active air bag.
Both Hands on the Wheel!
The first car safety tip is to always drive with both hands on the wheel. The best place for your hands are at the nine and three o'clock positions, which help provide greater control when steering.
Lights On, Please
With your safety in mind, all new vehicles come equipped with daytime running lamps. To help with safe driving, turn on your lights in rainy or snowy weather to make sure that your headlamps, tail lamps and other exterior lamps are on. Even if your visibility is good, other drivers will have a better view of your vehicle.
Snow on the Roof
Don't let snow pile up on top of your car or truck. Peaks of snow increase drag and decrease gas mileage. And snow piled in your pickup's bed can obstruct both your view and the view of other drivers.
Quick Maneuvering
If you need to veer suddenly to avoid hitting an object in your vehicle's path, before turning, make sure you look in the direction you'd like to head towards to make sure the path is clear.
Alcohol is a factor in 39% of traffic fatalities in the U.S.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these visual signs may help you spot an impaired driver:
-
Stopping problems (too far, too short, or too jerky)
-
Straddling a lane line
-
Swerving or drifting
-
Weaving across lane lines
-
Accelerating or decelerating for no apparent reason
-
Slow response to traffic signals
-
Turning with a wide radius
-
Driving without headlights at night
-
Varying speed
Let An Expert Inspect
Making sure your vehicle is in peak condition is another excellent way to help you drive safely. Stop by your MileOne dealer and let a technician give your vehicle a inspection. Your technician checks many areas (27 points in all) that can assist in safe driving – including wiper blades, windshield cracks, tire wear, brakes, steering, suspension and tail lamps – and will offer expert services if you need them.
Make sure that your automobile is up to date on its service schedule.
